One platform is a frame, not a ranking
CURATOR’S NOTE / ONE PLATFORM
A device can hold a whole period of your life. Let the collection show what you did with it, from the first evening to the last game you discovered.
Write the boundary in the title
“Nine games from my old handheld” and “Nine games I play on this computer now” answer different questions. Decide whether the boundary is a particular machine, a platform family, or your own time using it. A personal collection does not need to make a claim about platform exclusivity.
For this fictional example, imagine one handheld used at home and on short trips. The collection includes a first game, something suited to the controls, a shared-screen memory, and a late discovery. Those roles make the choices distinct even when several games share a genre.
- 01Copper Valley Express
The first evening was mostly learning the buttons.
- 02Glasswing Circuit
This is the version whose steering I remember.
- 03Pebble Cabinet
A small arrangement between other plans.
- 04Couchside Rally
The room supplied its own commentary.
- 05Weatherbound Atlas
When I picture this device, I picture this sky.
- 06Pocket Parliament
I found it after I thought I knew the library.
- 07Paper Kite Patrol — Pocket Edition
I mean the pocket edition, not the living-room version.
- 08Moss Letter Office
Its quiet menu was the reason I tried it.
- 09Night Ferry Garden
I left a little garden waiting for my return.
Keep versions legible without writing a catalogue
Use a title such as “Paper Kite Patrol — Pocket Edition” when that edition explains your memory. Put personal context in the note: “I mean the pocket edition, not the living-room version.” For your real choices, copy the edition wording from the copy you own; the editor does not verify release platforms or identify ports.
- Name the device boundary and whether the collection is ranked.
- Make a shortlist of twelve names from your own library or memory.
- Assign each a role: first, shared, portable, late discovery, or defining favorite.
- Choose nine roles worth keeping. Several entries may have the same role if their notes explain why.
- Preview the longest edition name and simplify the note if the tile feels crowded.
When the collection belongs in sixteen slots
If your subject genuinely has four chapters, use the changing-taste structure and retitle it for the platform. For example: first purchases, shared sessions, overlooked finds, and recent returns. More slots are useful when they add a chapter; they are less useful when they merely postpone choosing.
Demonstration only: game names and player notes are original fictional writing examples, not a game catalogue, real player testimony, or buying recommendations. Any resemblance to existing titles is coincidental. Examples do not use or fetch official covers.
